Guild General Meeting

June 20, 2023 • General Meeting

WELCOME TO OUR NEW WEBSITE! It will take the team several weeks to get everything loaded over here, but keep reading to get a tour of our new digs.

This coming Tuesday, June 20, 2023 will be our meeting for June, and we hope to see you there.  You can gather beginning at 6:00 p.m., but the meeting will begin at 6:30, and end at 8:00 p.m. Bring your name badge so we can get to know each other, and be sure to check in to the Janet Goeske center.  If you don’t have your badge, you can check-in manually.

President’s Message: Jeri Read
Hello Quilters! I am so glad I am the President of this group.  I am finding my quilting passion again, and I know that part of it comes from the Raincross Quilt Guild.  I hope that as we learn together and grow together over the next millennium, that you will also find your passion.  My hope is that we grow as women, that we grow in our families, and that we grow together as friends and quilters.

We’d love to see what the class made this Saturday, and if you’ve ever made a design in any of Laura Heine classes you can join in, too! Any completed quilts or quilt tops or bags or garments that involves quilting somehow — bring them and show us all!

• Charlotte Byrne: Block of the Month: The Block of the Month is up on our blog and has the theme of Montana. Come to our meeting to hear more.  We post them under the Header titled Block of the Month 2023, above.

• Barbara Mathews: Retreat We have another retreat coming! It’s the Raincross Quilt Guild 2023 Fall Retreat, “Sewing on the Sand.” The dates are Oct. 26 – Oct. 29, 2022 (Thursday – Sunday) We’ll check in at 2:00 pm and check out Sunday at 12:00 noon. The location is listed on the flyer (download it below), as well as registration info. The total cost, if we have 20 participants is $375 and includes all meals. REGISTRATION OPENS now. Deposit of $100 to hold your spot; registration money is due in full by Sept 19, 2023. Download form below.

• Dawn Marie Babbe, Programs: Our Guild held a successful class this weekend, taught by Susan Nash. Our Fearless Leader, Jeri, sent in some photos of the class in action:

The small Featherweight was a class sample, but everyone had a great time fusing and creating their collages. Thanks to Susan Nash for a great class. And for tonight, we’ll play some games! Sharpen your wits and get ready to compete; small quilty prizes will be awarded.

For many years, Raincross Guild had a newsletter, The Common Thread, edited by Angie Nudge. Every month was a new block for people to try. So that’s why a block appears in the header of this post, as well as in last month’s: in modifying a tradition and in coloring it digitally, hopefully inspiration for your Challenge Fabric will appear in your head.

We’re grateful to Andie and Dawn Marie Babbe for getting this for us. Have you started working on your challenge? Your challenge fabric project is due September 2023, and can be entered into four different categories: Quilts, Wearables, Wallhanging and Table Runners, and Bags. We hope you have started working on it, as we’d like to see as many completed projects as possible.

Here’s this month’s pattern and illustration: It’s a 20-inch California block, Brackman #3653 (if you know about that index). Head down to your LQS and grab some Kaffe dots to go with this fabric.

We are refreshing our By-Laws for the Raincross Quilt Guild, and are building on the last rendition which was in 2007, so it’s time for an update.  If you are a Volunteer in our Guild, and you have ideas about what your responsibilities are, please drop Char or Elizabeth an email at our Guild email: raincrossqg@gmail.com. We hope to finish up the bylaws this week, so if you are someone who doesn’t procrastinate, that will be great.

If you haven’t joined our Guild, please do!  We meet monthly, and beginning next month, the dues for the remainder of the year are a bargain at half price.  See our Membership Chair, Dawn Meade, for more information.

  • A N N O U N C E M E N T S
  • The Raincross Guild Executive Board Meeting is the second Tuesday of the month. See Jeri Read for more information. Minutes of that Board Meeting are posted up under the History tab, above.
  • The Inland Empire Modern Quilt Guild is having a garage sale for a fundraiser, but it’s regular stuff. It’s this Saturday, from 8:00-12:00, at 4580 Oakwood Place in Riverside.
  • We try to keep you updated on events around the area, so if you have something that should go on our Upcoming Events (to the right), drop us a note at our email (raincrossqg@gmail.com).
  • Need a summer project? QuiltMania has a series going on their blog called Hometown, by quilter Dianne Knott. They have released parts 1-6 so far.
  • The Modern Quilt Studio has Summer Camp, a weekly series of blocks that are easy, fun and are well-supported by videos. This one costs $25. The first images are going up now on Instagram, if you think you want to join. They also have Facebook support.
  • And we also have a Facebook page! Visit us there if you are a Facebook user; Cassandra Gray is the contact person if you need help. A survey was filled out last month about how you use social media. Very few of you use Instagram, so unless that changes, Raincross will not set up an account. For now, it’s Facebook and this new blog.

And now….what you’ve been waiting for! (And we promise the next post won’t be this long; we are just trying to get everything in one place.)

New WEBSITE/BLOG TOUR

Background: We have moved over to a new hosting site, WordPress. This new platform also has some more robust features; one of them is the ability to send out a notice whenever a post is put up. (Blogger used to be able to do that, but things changed.)

In order to make that happen, we are asking you to JOIN THIS BLOG. In the box on the upper right, where it says TYPE YOUR EMAIL, please do so. This triggers a note to our website software. It does not sign you up for anything else. Nor does your email go flying off into the world. Then press FOLLOW. That’s it!

It’s pretty slick to get an announcement in your inbox when we publish a post. We’d like to encourage everyone to follow.

CALENDARS/UPCOMING EVENTS: As mentioned before, on the right of this main page are our UPCOMING EVENTS. It’s a listing of everything that is on our calendar for the next couple of months. We’ve tried to put on interesting things outside our guild (like the Long Beach Quilt Show, or a neighboring guild’s events that you might enjoy). We also have our usual of General Meetings, Board Meetings, and our three smaller sewing groups. (For more info on those, click on the ABOUT RAINCROSS tab.)

MEMBERS ONLY: The next feature is a private section of our website. It’s up there under our header. You’ll need a password to access that, which came to you in the email that sent you here. ONLY MEMBERS is just that. If you didn’t receive a code, then perhaps check your membership status with Dawn Meade, Membership Chair.

Already we have plans for that, but right now, our Membership Directory is already there. You can find all of the membership info in an online document. It can be downloaded and printed out, if you are a paper person. Many thanks to our Membership Chair for compiling our Membership Directory. If you see errors in the directory, please contact her so we can update.

To log in to the Members Only section click on the words MEMBERS ONLY at the top, underneath our header. This page will pop up:

In the box, type in the password you received in your email. Then click ENTER.

When you see our Logo and the words Protected: Members Only, you will know you are in. In addition to the Directory, we have the Zoom codes up for the First Wednesday Sew Group (contact person: Cassandra Gray). More is coming. To get back to the blog, click on the header at the top.

HISTORY: Because we had a chance to browse our book of newsletters, it was a reminder of how important the history of our Guild is. Much of our history is contained in our Minutes, both of the Raincross Board and our General Raincross Meeting. As we receive them, they’ll be posted up under the tab marked HISTORY. It may take a bit to get them loaded; we appreciate your patience.

Also under that tab is a link to our archived Blog, so you can still access all your favorites. Okay, that’s it!

We’ll see you at our meeting on
