Recap General Meeting

June 2023 Meeting in a Nutshell

Thank you to all who came to our meeting — it was a lovely June evening. And many thanks to all those who heeded the call to Follow this Blog! We now have about 1/4 of our membership receiving these posts directly. We’ll continue the Group Emails for bit, then we will rely on the fact that you have followed the blog. In the interim:
— For those who haven’t subscribed, we’ll soon be sending you an invitation to do so. Please follow the instructions and accept the invitation. For those who have already subscribed, we apologize for the double notifications of a blog post. This will end soon, so thanks for your patience.
— We’re aiming for a complete transition by the end of August. (So sign up to follow the blog so you won’t miss out on any news!)

Thank you all, for sharing with us!

Charlotte took us to Montana, to where the grizzlies live. We’ll be doing Grizzly Paws for our Block of the Month in June. Refer to Tab — above — to download the files. If you click on the DOWNLOAD button, it will download to your computer. If you click on the TITLE of the block (next to the download button), it will open up in a new window. By using the floating controls, you can click the download arrow to have it delivered to your computer. And here is the full quilt we’ll be making!

What a great line-up of sewing machines and quilters! This is a result of the Susan Nash/Laura Heine workshop that was held in June. Well done!

Another workshop (if we can get enough to sign up) will be on July 25th. The cost is $40, and you can either work on the one you started, or start a new one. Contact Jeri Read to sign up. You’ll need to pay in advance, as usual.

Phyllis Hodel writes: “We awarded eight Quilts of Valor on May 21st at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. They were all nominated by Marsha Welch our Quilt Guild Member. They were all well received! Thanks for all the support!”

Phyllis sent in these photographs of the event. At our June meeting, Phyllis also reported that we have 20 tops completed, but we need quilters to help get them quilted. We have four quilts finished up, but there are four awardees waiting to get their quilts. If you can help, please contact Phyllis Hodel (her contact info is on our new Directory, available in the Members Only section of our website).

Refer to the blast email you received to get the code, or send a message to the guild email: raincrossqg@gmail.com When you receive the code, write it on a piece of tape and stick it to your sewing machine. I guarantee you will always know where it is!

We were kept busy, challenging that creative side, as we tried to solve a variety of games brought to us by our Vice President (Programs), Dawn Marie Babbe.

We kept hearing, “I finished!” and in the end, prizes were awarded to: Sue Carter, Laurie Dyke, Chris Kerns, Stacey Babbe, Shelly Niles, and Andie Babbe.

As the evening wound down, the Mystery Box went to Vickie Milhelich, and Door Prizes were awarded to Paula Wilcoxon, Mary Bossell, Dorothy Martinez, Rose Bertok and Nancy Poole.

OUR VOLUNTEERS

Ours is an organization that runs on Volunteer Power. None of us gains monetarily from our service…we just do it because we want to help others succeed and help the guild to run. We really appreciate our volunteers! So we can start to put names with faces (for those of you who are newbies), we have the following photos (more are coming):

  • ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • Please check Upcoming Events (column to the right) for upcoming events. We try to keep you updated — send an email to raincrossqg@gmail.com to get your event on our calendar and in this Announcement Box.
  • Remember to contact Jeri Read if you are interested in taking the Susan Nash/Laurie Heine class on July 25th.
  • We are missing our guild’s standing quilt frame. If you happen to have it lurking around in your garage or sewing room, please contact Jeri Read.
  • The Bylaws Committee is still working hard on getting our Guild ready for prime time. Linda Adams (our first President) confirmed that we have never had bylaws, and that it was probably a good time to vote them in. Watch for upcoming news!
  • It’s important to get your money in for the upcoming Beach Retreat, Oct. 26 – Oct. 29, 2022 (Thursday – Sunday). See previous post for the downloadable form. A deposit of $100 ( by September 19th) is to hold your space, but it’s also okay (and encouraged!) if you want to pay for the fun times now, all at once. See Barbara Mathews for more information.
  • Also looking ahead: calling all Round Robin participants! Get your quilts ready for July’s meeting.
  • Are you working on your challenge project for September? Watch this space in July for another quilt idea, taken from the early days of our guild.
  • Next publication date for this newsletter is July 13th. A drop-dead deadline is Tuesday, July 11th by 9 p.m. Anything after that will go on the recap post, published sometime in late July. Send your news, photos, announcements, whatever to raincrossqg@gmail.com Thank you!
