Recap General Meeting

September 2023 …we had a blast!

Quilt by Susan Helliar

Thank you all for coming to our meeting this past Tuesday; the energy in the room as Elly and Susan hung the quilts was palpable. All the quilts and projects and wallhangings and the one wearable (apron) were fun to see created out of the Challenge Fabric.

And thank you to Charlotte Byrne for donating the prizes of charm packs and fat quarters! And if technology is playing nice, here’s a video of how the room looked at the beginning of the meeting (and it was great to see so many people wearing purple/lavender to match our challenge fabric):

We had well over 25 participants (exact number coming soon, in our Minutes). Well done, everyone, and a big thank you to Dawn Babbe, our VP/Program Chair for getting this all together.
Those who were awarded prizes were:
• Quilt: Susan Helliar (shown at the top of this post)
• Bag: Charlotte Byrne
• Wallhanging/Tablerunner: Katherine Roletta
• Wearable: Traci Lockman

Here are some photos of the evening (click to enlarge):

To keep track of all our outside activities, there is a new Tab called Activities in our Header above. This will hold all the details for retreats, field trips, etc. If you are hosting an activity, or know of one we should be aware of (yes, Quilts of Valor ceremonies too!), please send an email to raincrossqg@gmail.com.

We have a webpage dedicated to the process (no longer posted), and over the next few days we’ll get up your questions from the Guild Meeting and the Committee’s answers. An email was sent out reminding you of the password to the Members Only page, as well as instructions for how to vote if you are not going to be at the meeting in person. Take time to look over the proposed Bylaws and the Standing Rules, which are found on the Members Only page. We will also put up a transition timeline. Please be thinking about if you’d like to run for office, or serve as a Standing Chair, or in some other capacity in our organization. We can’t do it without you!

  • A N N O U N C E M E N T S
  • BYLAWS AND STANDING RULES: The proposed Bylaws and Standing Rules will be voted on next meeting (October 17, 2023). See announcement above.
  • RETREATS: The Beach Retreat is coming soon, but only for those who have paid their money. If you didn’t pay the balance of your fee, please contact Barbara Mathews (on the Roster in the Members Only tab) to get your money in to her. This is much appreciated! We still have three openings, if you want to jump in and have fun. More information is on the Activities Tab, above.
  • RETREATS, part 2: We’re looking ahead to our Spring Retreat. See info earlier in this post. Form can be downloaded and filled out and either brought with your $100 to the October meeting, or mailed to Barbara directly. The Activities Tab, above, will have more information.
  • HOFFMAN TRIP: See information on Activities Tab, above.
  • The Raincross Guild Executive Board Meeting is the second Tuesday of the month. See Jeri Read for more information. When available, minutes of that Board Meeting will be posted up under the History tab, above. The Zoom code to join is in Members Only, but please drop Jeri a note letting her know you’ll attend.
  • QUILTS OF VALOR: Thank you for all the project helpers in helping us get our quilts sewn up. Please see Phyllis or Sandy to help with turning our Quilts of Valor quilt tops into quilts. We need quilters, so if you are a quilter and have room in your schedule, or know of someone who would be happy to volunteer their time, please contact these two ladies. The Celebration is coming soon, and we’ll announce it. It’s worth going to, as it is quite rewarding.
  • Don’t forget about our new Saturday Sew-days to help make charity projects. They will be the third Saturdays of November and December and it will be held at the Goeske Center. Check the calendar on the right side of our blog of these events, as well as the 4th Saturday Sew-days (held at the Lake Mathews Community Room). There will be no Sew Days in October because of the Beach Retreat.

Some fun opportunities are coming our way. See below for more info.

I talked to Linda Kim at our meeting; she has sent 8 quilts to Maui! She also sent her email address with the quilts, and is receiving notes from those who received her handwork. If you have quilts to donate, and you meet their guidelines, please contact the Maui Quilt Shop (their banner, above). Their specific requirements for quilts are on  their website so check to see what they can use. Remember that you’ll have to ship your quilts yourself.
