This coming Tuesday, October 17, 2023 will be the General Meeting of the Raincross Quilt Guild, in Riverside, California. For those who like to come early the doors will be open at 6:00 p.m., but the meeting will begin at 6:30, ending at 8:00 p.m. Bring your name badge so we can get to know each other, and be sure to check in to the Janet Goeske center. If you don’t have your badge, you can check-in manually.
PROGRAM INFO: In the above photo from 2017, Elly had a Challenge where we turned to Page 44 in a magazine, and used that to inspire us in our creativity; Barbara Mathews made this table runner from her inspiration. This brings us to the Program for our next week’s meeting:
Challenge Quilts & Projects
Pick your best Challenge quilt/project and bring it to Guild for a special show-and-share of past Challenges.
Looking ahead: For November, our Guild will host our Annual Exchange Game. This year’s exchange will be a bag/carryall. So fire up those sewing machines, and get ready for a fun night of swapping. More in our next post that will be published shortly after our meeting.

Dear Raincross Friends,
I am really looking forward to all of the great things our guild will be accomplishing together in the coming years. We have the greatest members with lasting friendships. The talents of this group amaze me! As we continue, we need the structure and guiding principles that our new bylaws and standing rules will provide. Char and Elizabeth have worked together tirelessly to bring them to fruition. I think we have a great beginning, and I believe we can grow into the structure. As they are written now, we can move forward and make any needed changes.
It has been my privilege and delight to be the President for so many years. You have allowed me (or strongly encouraged me) to run unopposed for the office of president. I will still be the President as we transition into a new board, and also for the next term as I serve as Past President. Many of the bylaws and standing rules reflect all the things I believe make a great guild. I have tried to incorporate them in my years as president without having anything written down!!! The bylaws and standing rules will not change the heart of our guild! We are a talented, encouraging and resourceful group of members who want to see the Quilting Arts enjoyed and continued in Riverside.

When you enter the meeting this month, check in at the Sign-in table. Debbie Warner will then give you your ballot to either vote YES or NO on the adoption of the Bylaws and the Standing Rules. When you cast your vote at the Bylaws/SRules table, we’ll initial our sheet that you did cast a ballot. Nowhere on the ballot will you be identified. And…Charlotte has a treat for you! We think this will go smoothly.
Please take time to look at the Bylaws and Standing Rules (found in Members Only). It might also be helpful to look over our page of questions and answers. If you have a question about the Bylaws, send it to our Guild email at raincrossqg@gmail.com
There will be time for questions before you vote: Charlotte and Elizabeth will be happy to answer all and any.

Charlotte’s pattern for this month is about forests, specifically the forests of the state of Georgia. Here are two versions, above. All those triangles are fun to make! The pattern for the block is in our Block of the Month 2023 tab, above.

The Raincross Quilt Guild 2023 Fall Retreat, “Sewing on the Sand.” is this month Oct. 26 – Oct. 29, 2022 (Thursday – Sunday). For more information, see Activities Tab, above. There is also info for Spring’s Retreat next April.
The Hoffman Tour is the day after our meeting!! See the Activities Tab, above, for more information.

Don’t forget to look at the eclipse this weekend. This version — on October 14th — is an Annular Eclipse; however, we won’t see the full version where we are. A Total Eclipse will happen next April in many parts of the country, beginning in Texas and swooping up into Vermont. Maybe it’s a good time to make an eclipse quilt.

And now, a personal note. Above is a screenshot from QuiltMania Magazines, which publish three different journals: Simply Vintage, Simply Moderne, and QuiltMania. If you haven’t looked into subscribing to a magazine, one of these can be recommended, depending on your interest. This publication is one of the jewels of our quilting industry, which for some, have taken the place of our beloved — but now gone — Quilters Newsletter. One of their features is publishing photos of quilts in quilt shows from around the world. We nearly lost this publication at the beginning of covid: I did a feature with them that people were able to get free patterns by subscribing to their newsletter (all the patterns have now come back home to my website). So this news –about not being available on newsstands — alarmed me, and thought it was a good time to give them a plug. As quilters, if we don’t support our industry or publications, they won’t be here when we want them. If you can subscribe, or are interested, here is the link.

The array of prize-winning quilts from the AQS Des Moines Quilt Show were outstanding. Above is the third place winner, FLOWER CARNIVAL, by Naomi Otomo of Saitama, Japan in the Hand Quilted Quilts Category.

And this one is an Honorable Mention, titled PRETTY PETALS, by Carmen Nordback of Fargo, ND. If you hear of other quilt shows that are worth mentioning, send us an email!
If you have news for our Guild, or something of interest from the greater quilt world, the deadline for our next post is WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 18, AT 9 A.M.
Send any items to our guild email: raincrossqg@gmail.com
If you miss the deadline (it happens), we’ll put it on the next post. (It is earlier this month as The Communications Chair is heading out of town.)
