WE apologize if some of you received this post too early, without all its parts. This is the one we want you to read!!

Our next Raincross Quilt Guild Meeting will be held this coming Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Please bring your Goeske check-in card, your Raincross Quilt Guild badge, Show-and-Share and if you want, something foody to share during our Hospitality Time.
For our program, we will be having a trunk show by Laura Prior, a long-time member of our neighboring guild, Inland Empire Quilt Guild.
She writes:
I started sewing with basic instruction from my mom, and then in Home Economics. class in Jr. High. When my two children were in school I owned and operated a commercial embroidery business from home. I did that for nine years and then sold the business and decided I wanted to learn to quilt. Although I made a couple of small quilts in the 1980s I didn’t get serious about quilting until I joined the Inland Empire guild in 2014 when it became my passion. I also enjoy making purses, bags, and rope bowls. I have designed and made several quiet books, one of which was featured in an issue of Designs in Machine Embroidery magazine in 2015. I love teaching classes and am always looking for new techniques to learn.
Our class with Laura will be these nifty and very helpful Project Bag Totes. You can get organized for classes, sew-days, and other sewing because they are clear vinyl. They also have a handle on the top to make for easy handling! The class is June 15th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a salad potluck. Sign up now: we have a minimum for our class to carry. The location will be announced later.
See you Tuesday!
Why the VOTE quilt at the top of the page? It’s voting night at Guild Night, and while there will be voting by acclamation, we thought you’d like to see and read about our candidates and next Board Members.
PRESIDENT
Barbara Mathews, currently holding the position of Retreat Coordinator for our Guild. I’ve been a member of our Guild since 2012, and I’m also a member of the Inland Empire Modern Quilt Guild and was president of that Guild for one year. I’m interested in a variety of textile arts – quilting, collage, embroidery, and clothing.
PRESIDENT-ELECT
Maria Copak: Retired District Library Specialist. Worked for Fontana School District for 42 years. I waited until I retired to start quilting. My other hobbies are cooking, baking, crocheting, sewing, and paper crafting.
VICE-PRESIDENT
Fern Fujimoto: I began quilting in late eighties when a mother of my son’s Jr. All-American football teammate invited me to learn a new quick quilt method, Eleanor Burns’ “Quilt in a Day.” I stopped quilting when I moved to Riverside until I met Bonnie Hale. She taught a group of us and brought to the Guild. I miss her, but am grateful for the start she gave us. I hope to encourage others as she did us.
SECRETARY
Barbara Kaiser: I began sewing at about age nine and quilting in 2001. My other interests are gardening and reading. Before retirement I worked in a secretary/admin capacity for 50+ years.
TREASURER
Vangie Gorman says that quilting is her happy place. She’s been quilting for about 15 years and piecing with bright colors is her favorite.
MEMBERSHIP CHAIR
Linda McKenna started quilting in the early 2000’s. She was a member of the Camarillo Quilt Guild for many years and served on their committees and board in various positions. After moving back to Moreno Valley in 2017, she joined the Raincross Quilt Guild.
COMMUNITY PROJECTS CHAIR
Sue Carter: I’ve been a sewer since 7th grade Home Economics and began quilting when my oldest grandchild needed a baby quilt; he’s 19 now. I took one quilting class at Gay Marie’s and have steadily been amassing fabric and patterns since then. I love the feeling of getting a project finished!.
RETREATS, CO-COORDINATOR
Linda Adams: I have been quilting since 1990. I also love gardening, my dogs and horses and living rurally. So fortunate to live close and be close to my family. Friends are also a very necessary part of my life. I’ve always volunteered in activities that are important to me; so am happy to be involved with Raincross Quilt Guild since it’s beginning.
RETREATS, CO-COORDINATOR
Mary Mertz: I’ve been sewing since junior high and started quilting in the early 90’s. I’ve been a member of RQG from day one. I feel so lucky and happy I can still participate in the guild even though I live in Oceanside now.
CHALLENGES, CO-COORDINATOR
Evie Rienstra: Quilting is dear to my heart, and I enjoy playing trumpet in two community bands. I also volunteer with KVCR TV/FM as well as The Run Through Redlands 5K. Together with Jennifer, we look forward to providing challenges that spark the imagination and stimulate creativity.
CHALLENGES, CO-COORDINATOR
Jennifer Hayford: I have been a quilter on and off for twenty years. I enjoy bright colors. I enjoy making them for other people so I do not have a lot of quilts at home. I have been a member of the guild for several years now. I finally became active last year and am enjoying myself more with all my new friends.
COMMUNICATIONS CHAIR
Elizabeth Eastmond: Loves writing, quilting with high-contrast saturated colors, and is happy to have a sewing machine that doesn’t fight with her. She has lectured at many Southern California Guilds, teaching workshops with patterns of her own design. There’s not a geometric quilt shape she doesn’t love.
MYSTERY BOX
Pam Waters: I was born in a small town in Connecticut where my mother taught me to sew. In 1973 I moved to California and began my 43-year career as a Radiological Technologist at Parkview Community Hospital and sewed most of my wardrobe. In 2016 I retired so I could learn to quilt and I must say, I’m enjoying the quilting.
GREETER/DOOR PRIZES
Debbie Warner: I love family, quilting with my peeps. I’m energetic and always willing to be of service to others! I’m a giver not a taker.
Our Nominating Committee will run the vote, and then next month, in June, the chair of the Nominating Committee, Debbie Warner will conduct the installation ceremony.

Photos from the recent retreat are also up on the Activities Tab, thanks to those who sent some over. Looks like a fun time, with games AND sewing, with some gorgeous quilts!!
An Opportunity Quilt is coming this month from the Inland Empire Quilt Guild. Visit them at the back of our room to purchase tickets to win.
