Recap General Meeting

We Came, We Learned, We Had Fun! • April 2025 General Meeting

Our General Meeting was held Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at the Janet Goeske Center in Riverside, California. Maria Copak was conducting, in place of Barbara Mathews, who was away. The meeting was called to order right on time at 6:30 p.m. below are some of those who made announcements and gave us information about the goings-on of the Guild. For more information about things they presented, please refer to a copy of our minutes, written by our excellent secretary, Barbara Kaiser (found *here*), or catch some of the announcements at the bottom of this post, in a bright yellow box.

Please also refer to our page on Retreats and Activities, which keeps you up to date on the groups and activities sponsored by our Guild.

We had some spectacular quilts this month — you have all been very busy! Click on the right arrow to advance the slide show of your beautiful quilts and jackets! Thank you to those who shared: Linda McKenna, Dorothy Martinez, Paula Wicoxen, Laure Dike, Susan Helliar (a quilt and a jacket!), Hayes Medina, and Shirley Lilly.

Our program this meeting was given by some of our very talented guild members: Evie Rienstra, Jennifer Hayfor, and Kay Whiteside. They presented options of several different binding options that we can use for our quilts.

Here, Jennifer goes over how to make a flange binding — a two color option that give a nice finish to a quilt.

Evie Rienstra went over several different alternative bindings, including laces.

While bias binding can feel tricky, Kay Whiteside taught us the ins and outs of creating a bias binding that can go around curves. Here she is showing how to make it continuous.

What fun is this? Many of you have completed your blocks and are raring to go to finish them up. We are grateful to Susan Miller for her wonderful design, and for writing directions and sharing her talents. Many thanks go to Jeri Read as well, for her samples every month. Here are some of the latest completed blocks:

Jeri Read introduces the rows of hearts.

And here are the quilts just sewn together in rows. However….

…if you want to do the full thing, Susan Miller (left) shows off the little verse that goes in between the rows, making an illustration of a favorite song about love. Thank you, Susan and Jeri! Our Block of the Month tab, above, has all the instructions and a picture of the finished center. (A bit wonky because this photo is all we had. If Susan or Jeri has a better photo, please send it over!)

We had some winner for the Door Prizes Attendance Drawing, and the Opportunity Basket. Thank you to those who organized these prizes!

And a HUGE thank you to Theresa Ortiz for all these great photographs!

(Another famous female photographer was Margaret Bourke-White, shown here with her camera. from here)
