This is a recap of the October 2024 meeting of the Raincross Quilt Guild. It was held October 29th, a different date than usual because of building availability.
The theme was Autumn and Halloween.
Barbara Matthews, our president, welcomed us all back from every where, and we were off and running.

Pumpkin and Spice and Everything Nice! Are you all just about overloaded with that flavor?? Hope you all had a fun Halloween – no trick or treaters at my house! At least I don’t have a whole bunch of left-over candy to tempt me!
I just got home from our Fall Retreat at Ayres hotel. What fun we had!! I kept marveling at how generous quilters are; sharing skills, goodies, food, and lots of knowledge! We had a surprise visitor on Saturday afternoon – many of you know Carol Holmes who was a long-time Guild member who moved to Missouri a few years back. We had a few out-of-towners from Arizona that came with Cassandra – they’re joining the Guild and are ready to come back for Road and future retreats! So wonderful to visit with these new and old friends.
Well, Fall is upon us and the time change is giving us fits so — pull out those sweaters and get busy on some cozy quilts! BTW – we still have some spots available for the Tina Curran workshop (Whimsical Garden) on the 9th – call me if you’d like to attend – $50 – at the Lake Mathews Community Room (10am – 4pm).
Barbara
Don’t forget to read the minutes of this meeting for all sorts of great information. All our announcements are in that great write-up by Barbara Kaiser, our Secretary.

And just a reminder: Tina Curran’s workshop is THIS weekend at the Lake Mathews Community Room, 16453 El Sobrante Rd, Riverside 92503 on Saturday, Nov 9, 10am to 4pm. We’ll do a salad potluck: bring something to add to the greens (provided), and your own drink.
Head to the Programs Tab, and there is a link at the top which will take you to all the information, including a link to her supply list. If you’d like to attend last minute, contact Barbara Mathews. Cost is $50 and there are a few spots left.

We had a wonderful autumn/Halloween Show and Share this month. Click on the arrows at the side to advance all the photos:
Those who shared their quilts with us: Cassandra Gray, Lorraine Halverson, Michelle Coiro, Phyllis Hodel, Barbara Matthews, Paul Wilcoxin, Laure Dike, Sue Carter and Kathy Voltzmeyer.

Pam Waters outdid herself this month, as we had 10 different bags we could put tickets in to win. Lots of winners!

After our break, we had the regular Show and Share.

The first group was from Cassandra, who told us a wonderful story about quilting and remembering her step-mother, who raised her and was gone too soon.

Barbara was just back from France, where she participated in and helped run some stitchery workshops. These are her samples and her projects.

Chris Kearns showed off two of her recent finishes. Phyllis Hodel brought her beautiful, brightly colored quilt (center–click on image to enlarge). Dorothy showed us a collection of bags for RARCC (pattern is found here; scroll down), but didn’t catch who they were from. Drop us a line at raincrossqg@gmail.com if you know who made all these.

Look at all these fun birds! Our Block of the Month for this year is up and going, and is found at the top of this website, on the Block of the Month tab. Susan Miller designs these, and Jeri Read is making up the samples. If you have questions, pleass contact them for help (number is in the directory in Members Only). We are making a row quilt. Susan writes:
The final quilt will measure 36” by 52” before optional borders. You will need ½ yard for sashing around your blocks. Use fat quarters, scraps, or whatever you choose. We will be creating a row each month from September through June. Then you will have the summer (July and August) for borders, quilting and binding your quilt.

The second block, which is of several trees, is up now on the Block of the Month tab.

Phyllis Hodel writes: The Veterans program at the Goeske Center is November 8, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Barbara Filbin will be managing the program, she will need some help. I will be moving to Arizona so I’m hoping someone will step up and continue the program for the guild. I need the fabric and completed quilt tops out of the garage ASAP before we put the house on the market. I will help whoever is going to take over with the computer program for the nomination process. If interested, please call me or Barbara Matthews. Work day at Easy Quilting Corner is always the first Friday of every month (see calendar to the right).

If you need something fun to do this weekend, (aside from our Tina Curran workshop and the Quilts of Valor presentation) our Guild was sent this info about the Pilgrim Place Festival. She writes:
Dear Quilters,
You are invited to the Pilgrim Place Festival in Claremont on November 8 and 9, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
The Festival fills the Pilgrim Place campus with artisan booths including stained glass, woodworking, silver jewelry, weaving, knitting, ceramics, paintings, greeting cards, and more! You will also find lots of gently used housewares, furniture, clothing, vintage treasures, costume jewelry, plants, hundreds of books, and delicious food, baked goods, jams, and jellies.
Please note that the Fabrications Booth has 25 bins of rolled fabric along with trims, tools, notions, hundreds of patterns, and countless quilting and needlework books for sale at bargain prices! All these sewing supplies are in addition to gorgeous, handcrafted quilts, table runners, banners, doll clothes, children’s toys, and many fabulous gifts!
The Festival is a family-fun event too. Kids enjoy chalk drawings, craft projects, a train ride, snow cones, and learning at the Tongva people’s booth. You’ll find the Festival at: 625 Mayflower Road, Claremont, CA 91711
Admission is FREE! Free parking is available on all the surrounding streets. Walk through one of the gates to receive a map of all the booths. Please share this invitation with your friends, family, and Guild Members. It will be a pleasure welcoming you to Festival!
Sincerely, ~ Janet, Fabrications Booth Co-chair

Remember that in December we have our Newspaper Black and White with a Pop of Color challenges due?

More info is found on the Programs Tab, above. If you are stuck for an idea, above is an internet search for Black and White quilts. Don’t forget to add your pop of color.

And next month, November 19th in our guild meeting, we are swapping in the Big Exchange Game, table-runners and table toppers. Again, ideas are on the Programs Tab, above. Please take a moment to read while you are busy making. Please bring the swap item all wrapped up, as that’s part of the fun!
We had a successful retreat this past weekend in Moreno Valley at the Ayres Hotel. Our Retreats Co-Chair, Linda Adams, sent over these pictures of everyone hard at play work. Click the arrows on the side to go through the slideshow.
Our next retreat is next May at Viña, and then another after that in the fall at the beach. More information on those can be found in the Minutes from the meeting, and on the Activities and Retreats tab, above.

The annual Quilt Market (link goes to Instagram) was just held in Houston this past week. Here’s Tula’s booth, with her new line of fabrics all done up in quilts. Hope you enjoy the eye candy!

This is Sherri McConnell’s booth (done with her daughter Chelsi), and she has her quilt market posts up on her website, A Quilting Life (love her row quilt on the upper right).

These are Laurie Shifrin’s quilts, using Jason Yenter’s new line Interwoven (from In The Beginning Fabrics). So much to see, to learn, from following some of these tags on Instagram. Have fun sewing, and we’ll see you at our next meeting.
If you have news for our Guild, or something of interest from the greater quilt world, send any items to our guild email: raincrossqg@gmail.com
If you miss the deadline (November 14, 2024), we’ll put it on the next post. If you have any corrections or additions to this post, please send them to our email. Thank you! For more info, please refer to the Minutes of this meeting.
Our next Board Meeting is Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. If you want to come, please let our Secretary Barbara Kaiser know ahead of time.
Our next General Meeting is Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30, so come early for a good seat. Bring your item for the Exchange Game and see you then!
