Guild General Meeting

August 15, 2023 • General Meeting

That will be the title of the presentation from quilter Rose Rhoads, above, who will be coming to speak at our meeting this month. We will meet next Tuesday, August 15th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., but feel free to gather earlier. We meet in the main room at the Janet Goeske Center in Riverside, California. Please bring your name badge so we can get to know each other, and be sure to check in to the Janet Goeske center.  If you don’t have your badge, you can check-in manually.

Rose Rhoads was born and raised in North Carolina. As a military wife, she lived all over the United States, Europe and Asia. She took her first Quilting Class in the 1980s and was hooked. She continued to take classes, joined guilds and immersed herself in quilting. While living in Tennessee in the 1990s, Rose went through Quilt Judging Training and went on to judge numerous county fairs and the Tennessee State Fair quilts. She began teaching in her local Adult Education department there.

Rose and her husband, Bill, moved to California in 2003 and she immediately became involved in the Hemet Valley Quilters guild and also started a club for quilters in Sun City, where they live. Around 2008 Rose organized a Quilts of Valor chapter in Sun City that has awarded hundreds of quilts to veterans “touched by war.” In 2011 Rose became a Quilt In A Day certified teacher. She enjoys teaching Quilt in a Day patterns and also teaches a Beginners Class in Sun City. Encouraging new quilters and making Quilts of Valor are her passions.

In addition, a flier giving all the details is in the Members Only section. {Note: how to log in is at the bottom of this post; refer to an earlier email from Raincross Quilt Guild for the password, or at the meeting, see Dawn Meade or Elizabeth Eastmond (back tables).}

These Ohio Sampler quilts are from the turn of the century, and are seen in a virtual exhibit at the International Quilt Museum. Click the link to head to their website, then click the “play” button. It gets all fancy, but then click on any white circle and you’ll feel like you are standing in the museum, seeing the quilts. The description of the block elements, such as that eagle that always has three arrows in its hand and four stars at the corners, is interesting. Click on any quilt to enlarge the photo. (To get back here, click on the X in the upper right hand corner.)

And here’s a sampler quilt from our archives, February 2015. We have no info about the maker, apologies. If it is yours, drop us a note at raincrossqg@gmail.com and we’ll update this post.

NOTE: DEADLINE FOR NEXT POST ON THE WEB IS THURSDAY, AUGUST 17TH, AT 9 P.M. Send any items to our guild email: raincrossqg@gmail.com If you miss the deadline (it happens), we’ll put it on the next post.

Here’s Summer Fancy done up in our Challenge fabric. Keep working on your projects and we’ll see them next month! If you want this block, download the 9-inch size below.
