Recap General Meeting

We Found Trash & Treasure • Recap General Meeting August 20, 2024

(Trash to Treasure: Before)

So fun to see everyone this past meeting. Thank you for coming, for logging in to the Goeske Center, for signing up to bring your treasures to sell, and for participating in the Raincross Quilt Guild.

Tuesday’s meeting was lots of fun; lots of Show and Share projects, and a shopping frenzy at our Trash to Treasure event. I was happy to see so many people buying and selling! We’ll have a report on what the Guild’s cut was on this venture at the next meeting.

Don’t miss next month’s meeting!! We have a delightful speaker, Tina Curran, who will be sharing “My Design Process From Concept to Quilt.” Even though I’ve never designed my own pattern, I can’t wait to hear how it all comes together! We’ve also scheduled her to do a workshop on Nov 9 – “Whimsical Garden,” a combination of pieced and raw edge appliqué. More information is in the Programs Tab. We’ll be taking sign-ups next month.

Until next time, try to stay cool in these waning days of Summer! A perfect time to crank up the AC and stay inside and SEW! Even so…. COME ON FALL!! Join us this Saturday for our SEW Day at Lake Mathews Community Room  – info on the Activities Tab.

Barbara

Speaking of Sew Day…

Last month the quilters showed up at the regular place (Lake Mathews Community Room, 16453 El Sobrante Rd, Riverside), but the Powers That Be had over-scheduled it. So Barbara Mathews invited them all over to her house, and they had their Sew Day there. Thank you, Barbara! Sew Day runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please bring an item to share for the Salad Potluck.

Below is a Gallery of all the quilts at our Meeting this week. You are all so busy and productive, and so many interesting works to share. Thank you for bringing them, and thank you to all who smiled for the camera. 🙂
NOTE: We need another photographer to help us at our meetings. You won’t need to be on deck every meeting, but will be able to step in and take photos if Theresa can’t be there. If you can take a decent picture, please send an email to raincrossqg@gmail.com. Thank you for volunteering!

Those who showed quilts (in no particular order): Carrie Alldis, Joyce Stanger, Phyllis Hodel, Patsi Fountaine, Michelle Coiro, Florence Patrick, Paul Wilcoxon, Linda Adams, Barbara Mathews, Vickie Mihelich, Jennifer Hayford, Chris Kearns.

NOTE from Elizabeth: Sorry if I got names wrong, but please please write down your last name on the sign-in-sheet (see left). I sometimes will look at the photos and read your name tags, so if possible, wear your name tags, too. I also liked that two people wrote what their projects were — very helpful. And thanks for all your smiles!

Jennifer made a sample of our Challenge quilt for this fall, and brought it to meeting to show. You can see that she used all one fabric for the accent color, but lots of different black/white prints for the rest of the quilt.

Newspaper Challenge • Raincross Quilt Guild • Due December 2024

What is black and white and red all over? A newspaper, of course, which has inspired this challenge. Make whatever your heart desires with black and white fabrics plus any one color you would like to add to the mix.

  • The black fabrics and the white fabrics can be solids. The black fabrics and the white fabrics can be prints — i.e. white on black or black on white — no grays and no colors.
  • Select a single fabric for your color — a solid or a tone-on-tone that reads as a solid. While the challenge is primarily black-and-white, you may use as much of your single color fabric as you want.

For the December reveal, select one of the following four categories for your creation:

  • Quilts
  • Wall hangings
  • Wearables and bags
  • Other

If you cannot make up your mind on which category fits best, flip a coin to decide, or we can help you when you come in December. Your artwork will be displayed for viewing at the December meeting where we will vote for our favorites in each category. Questions? Please contact Jennifer Hayford or Evie Rienstra, who are our Challenge Chairs. (Numbers are on our roster in the Members Only. Password was sent to you last month.)

Christine scores a purple bin!

Note from Phyllis Hodel: We have been tasked with the honor of making a QOV for a Viet Nam Veteran that served with the Mobile Riverine Force as a combat medic.  We have been given funds to make this.  I’m waiting to hear from the Elks Lodge or the March base for a possible site for our awards ceremony.  Faten, the owner where we have our workshop, maybe making changes to our workshop schedule and I’ll let you know as soon as I do.  Thanks for all your support!

(Trash to Treasure: After)

Many thanks to Maria Copak (President-Elect) for organizing this sale, and for Vickie Mihelich (Treasurer) for taking the money and helping keep track of everything. We appreciate all our Volunteers!

Updates on Community Projects Page

The new, revised pattern is finished for the RARCC Bags, and that has been uploaded to our Community Projects page. Head there for your free downloads for a Larger Tote Bag (which is the same thing as an RARCC Bag). Sue Carter is the person overseeing this for our Guild. We appreciate all the donations you give, and bags and dog beds and quilts you make.

If you are in charge of one of our charity projects, and have info you want online, send it to our email, raincrossqg@gmail.com, and we’ll get it posted up.

Oh, hey look!! We have Tabs so you can find things easier!! Check out our September Program by clicking on the Programs Tab, and you’ll have links to Tina Curran’s website and shop, as well as info about all our other Guild Meetings going forward. We are still catching up, but if you have an idea for a program, or you heard a speaker, drop us an email. Oh, and these may move around, from where they are now. We are still fine-tuning.

And on a mobile device, it looks like this. Click on the Menu button and it drops down into a selection of all our Tabs. Choose the one you want. To hide this, click on the Menu button again.
