Dear fellow “Quiltists”, (Is that a word??)

Well, it’s what we do, and we all do it well; everyone with their own flair, technique, creativity, and skill.  That’s what I Love about our Guild – the variety of all the above, and a willingness to share with each other!

That’s how we grow in our craft.  Don’t ever think that what you have to offer is not good enough – I’m consistently awed by what some of you do with scraps or a project without a pattern (Yes, I’m one of those that has bags and bags of scraps that I’m going to turn into a masterpiece – some day!!) And selvages! (Don’t get me started!!)

We love what we do – so let’s DO it!  It’s a good time to stay inside (preferably with some friends), with the AC blasting and a tall glass of ice cold lemonade or tea.

Be blessed today – and EVERY day!

    Love Barbara

  • Barbara Mathews announced our guild has been invited to join the Long Beach Modern Quilt Guild, Jelly Roll Race at Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona (May 7-31). Teams of 3 or 4 compete. Individual guilds will keep finished tops to donate to charity. Tentative “race days” are Saturdays, the 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th.
  • She shared event dates for several other guilds. Details will appear under “Other Guild News” on our website
    • Antelope Valley Quilt Guild in Lancaster, May 23-24.
    • Orange County Quilt Guild, “Quilts of the Garden”, May 2nd
  • Reminder to buy tickets for the Blue Bag drawings. $5 = 6 tickets, plus each $5 earns 1 special ticket for the monthly door hanging kit drawing.
  • Viña Retreat – May 1-3.
    • $150 non-refundable deposit and completed registration form to Amy Printup to hold your place.
  • July Meeting –
    • “Bring a Friend”
    • All Hands Potluck
    • Night of round robin demos – looking for volunteers to demonstrate a tip or technique.
  • 4th Saturday Sew Day – March 28th – Victoria Village
    • In the future, we may only have access to this venue one Saturday a month. Barbara Mathews suggested that it be designated a workshop day; for members to demonstrate a skill or a speaker to hold a workshop for us.
  • When asked about a Hoffman tour, Evie indicated there is nothing scheduled at this time.

Janice and Pamela from the Los Angeles African American Quilt Guild joined us. Janice gave a brief overview of their guild, including that they are celebrating their 40th year this year. Their Opportunity quilt was on display for purchase of raffle tickets.

Evie clarified some details of Two Fabric Quilt Challenge

  • Use only 2 fabrics for quilt top (or main fabrics of other projects)
  • Quilt back can be any fabric
  • Binding can be any fabric (it shouldn’t draw attention away from the 2 fabrics in the top)

We’ve started a new tradition by donating non-perishable food items to the Janet Goeske Senior Center Food Pantry at each monthly Guild meeting,

Remember, donation(s) will earn you an extra ticket to our door prize drawing.
