Dear Raincross members,
We are coming up on several crossroads with our Guild.
First, we have the wheels in motion to become a 501c3 Non-Profit entity. This is exciting as it opens the door to a multitude of fundraising opportunities – (Which we are in desperate need of) including the Opportunity Quilt that we’ve been talking about for awhile!
Second, the election for new Board Members is fast approaching. We are in dire need of several members to sit on the Nominating Committee AND members who are willing to step up and run for a board position. ALL of the Executive Board positions will have completed their MAXIMUM term in those positions. If we don’t have a President, Vice-President, Secretary, or Treasurer, WE WILL NOT be able to conduct meetings, get speakers, or have program. Several of the other voting (elected) members of the Board are also at the end of their term. PLEASE, consider running to keep this Guild alive and functioning. All of the current position holders are more than willing to hold your hand and mentor you!
Third, we have cancelled the monthly Saturday Sew Days due to lack of participation, but, we still have that venue available for a $50 fee. We’d LOVE to have some of our members do workshops on small or all-day projects. We’ll talk about this more at the meeting. I know we have a boat-load of talent out there among our members – let’s share the wealth!
I hope you’re able to get out of the heat and enjoy some time at your sewing machine – I’ve got partially completed and new projects lined up out the door and around the block!! The So CA Quilters Run is a great way to add to that dilemma, and believe me, I succumbed to the pretty and fun stuff at every store! Ha! Ha!

Barbara reported that her collage workshop was a great success. She and Amy Printup shared their collages with the group – Amy not only finished hers but presented it framed! Barbara invited other attendees to bring their projects to the next meeting.
While reminding everyone that the monthly Saturday Sew Day was being discontinued, Barbara indicated that the room was still available to reserve for occasional use for a $50 use fee. She encouraged members to consider sharing their expertise by
doing some “Easy Peasy Fast and Easy” projects as mini workshops
Our July meeting featured Bring-a-Friend night. Each friend was given a welcome gift and invited to join our guild ($20 for the remainder of 2026).

BJ Kaiser, Eva Newman, and Kay Whiteside shared their experiences and projects from an amazing workshop on improvisational quilting hosted by Quilting for Community (Chatsworth, CA) with Maryann and China from Gee’s Bend Quilters (Boykin, AL). If interested in learning more about their history, look up the YouTube video, “Quiltmakers of Gee’s Bend”.

Senior Comfort (Meals-on-Wheels, etc.) – Chair, Jennifer Mahl
- Jennifer shared completed placemats and a shirt saver
- She has a few kits ready now, and will have patterns available soon.
Dog & Cats – (Still looking for a chairperson)
- Barbara Filbin explained that the chairperson’s responsibility is basically to collect items and deliver them to the shelter
- She attended the inaugural Mary S Roberts Sew Day where 15+ items (cat carrier covers and crate pads) were completed.
- They are hoping to make the Sew Day a monthly occurrence.
- A new super-easy pattern for carrier covers will be posted on the website shortly.
NORA Bags – Chair, Dorothy Martinez
- Very easy patterns for 2 sizes of bags can be found on the website.
- All help with this important charity is always welcome!
Quilts of Valor – Chair, Barbara Filbin
- Next awards ceremony will be Saturday, August 22, 2026, 12:30 p.m. at the Goeske Center, Ken Calvert room. If interested in helping that day and/or with any part of the quilt process, check with Barbara Filbin.

- Based on the results of the recent survey, we are starting this new monthly group designed to focus on creating for our charity projects.
- Meetings will the 2nd Tuesday of the month (beginning August 12th) from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Goeske Center
- Actual room to be announced
- Kick-off meeting on the 12th will focus on putting together quilts and basic planning
- No sewing machines at this meeting
- Guild members are encouraged to attend; open as well to Goeske members and visitors.
